UEFA PRO coach Daryl Willard a former youth coach at Tottenham & Chelsea FC and Director of Football at starsfootball.co.uk gets ready for the second round of the FA cup. He said: ‘The Leathers have got a real chance this Sunday to make history’
Director of football at www.Starsfootball.co.uk , Daryl Willard will run the dugout for Leatherhead FC in their FA Cup 2nd round game away at Wycombe Wanders on Sunday, the game kicks off at 2pm.
Willard is a UEFA PRO licensed coach with an impressive CV. This has included roles as a youth coach at both Chelsea for six years and Tottenham for two years. The other was a recent role in Azerbaijan as sporting director for their FA working alongside ex England and Arsenal capatan, Tony Adams.
Willard was brought in to bolster the coaching team after a poor run of results which saw them suffer three losses on the spin in the Bostik Premier League. Since Willard has come in they have only lost five out of their last 15 games in both league and cup competitions. This has seen victories against big spending teams such as Billericay Town and Margate and an undefeated FA cup run.
In his time at the club so far Willard has helped guide Leatherhead FC to 13th place currently in the Bostik Premier League and famously to the second-round of the FA Cup for only the second time in the club’s 110-year history. Their other longest cup run was when they reach the fourth-round in the 1974-75 season when they beat the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, before eventually being knocked out by Division One side Leicester City.
The Leatherhead side also possesses quality players who have Football League and Fa Cup experience in player-manager Sammy Moore, player-assistant manager Jack Midson and full-back Shaun Clohessy. Moore and Midson have played for AFC Wimbledon and Clohessy has played for Southend United. 34 year-old Midson has starred particularly in the FA Cup run scoring in every round and including the qualifying round is the top-scorer in the FA Cup with eleven goals so far in the competition.
The run has also seen the club get extensive tv coverage having been featured on BBC’s final score in their first-round tie against Billericay and then BT Sport for coverage of the reply of the tie. This has helped to bring a good amount of extra revenue into the club and most importantly exposed the club to an audience of people who would have not heard of the club before.
Sunday’s second-round tie will see them travel to Adam’s Park to play League Two side Wycombe. Wycombe currently lie fifth in League Two. Their squad boasts Adebayo Akinfenwa (The Beast), Craig-Mackail-Smith and Adam El-Abd.
